This is painting by numbers, a series of four canvas panels, hand-painted reproductions in oil of the numerical abstractions of digital reproduction (the pixelation is in the paint as well as in these jpeg files). This is not just yet another form of ‘abstract-photorealism’ (see Equestrian) however, these re-pixelated hand-painted digital images are a celebration of the Neo-Pythagoreanism of our times (see Denfals O Moelhamus for more Pythagorean imagery).
“The Pythagoreans, because they saw many of the attributes of numbers belonging to sensible bodies, assumed existing things to be numbers - not separately existing numbers, but that things are actually composed of numbers.” - Aristotle.
“The great simulacra constructed by man evolve from a universe of natural laws to one of forces and tensions, and finally, today, to a universe of structures and binary oppositions. After the metaphysics of being and appearance, after that of energy and determination, we have the metaphysics of indeterminacy and the code.” - Jean Baudrillard.
